JMI HON OFFICERS, BOARD OF TRUSTEES PROFILES
Joint Presidents:
Lady Solti
Freelance broadcaster and writer. Lady Solti has been a contributor to
BBC Radio 3, BBC Classic Magazine, Classic FM, Classic FM Magazine, LBC,
and many other magazines, radio and television stations in the UK and
the USA. Starting out as an actress, she became presenter and interviewer
on current affairs, children's programmes and arts programmes such as
BBC's Face the Music. Because of her shared life with her husband Sir
Georg Solti, Valerie Solti, has, since his death, continued to be involved
with the international world of classical music and opera, both as an
advisor and fundraiser. She has been and still is Trustee, Chairman or
President of many prestigious arts Institutes amongst them Sadler's Wells,
English Touring Opera, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Mariinsky Theatre
Trust, Liszt Academy Budapest and the Solti Foundation. Her interests
are Music, Education, Performing and Visual Arts, Architecture, Conservation.
Leopold de Rothschild CBE
A member of the famous Banking Family, Leopold de Rothschild is renowned
for knowledge of and his support of music. He is Chairman, of Countess
of Munster Musical Trust and President of the Bach Choir. He has been
Chair of the British Council Music Advisory Committee, Sadlers Wells Trust
and numerous other musical and arts Institutes
Vice Presidents:
Walter Goldsmith FCA CIMgt FRSA
Respected and admired leader in the Jewish Community, in the international
business world and in public life, Walter's early career was at Black
& Decker where he became managing Director at the age of 32, European
Director and then Corporate Vice President and President of the Pacific
International Operations, based in Los Angeles.
On returning to the United Kingdom in 1979 he was appointed Director
General of the Institute of Directors (1979-1984), an international professional
body and representative voice for over 30,000 business leaders. He has
co-authored 4 business books including the bestseller 'The Winning Streak'.
At present he is Chairman or Director or advisor to a number of public
and private companies across a wide spread of industries. Walter served
as JMI Chairman from 2002 and retired from the position in 2008.
Lady Lipworth
Trustee and Officer of several major charities to do with the Arts and
Humanities, including Past Chairman of the Special Projects Advisory Board
of the Royal Academy of Arts; Vice President of Friends of the Philharmonia;
and Trustee of Cancerkin at the Royal Free Hospital. Past Co-Chairman,
Board of Trustees of BA. Rosa Lipworth opens her home to many charities
who through her concern and interest have raised hundred of thousands
of pounds.
Jonathon Lyons
Director, Partner and Chief Executive of investment and property companies
President, International Rotary Club of Westminster; Patron, Royal Academy
of Arts; Trustee, Sir Jack Lyons Charitable Trust and other charitable
trusts; past Co-Chairman, Board of Trustees of BA and Honorary Executive
Vice President of BA (now BA).
David and Tanya Josefowitz
Dr David Josefowits has contributed to classical music in a number of
innovatory and marvellous ways. As a scientist he was instrumental in
patenting the shellac that records were made of. He pioneered a mail order
classical music company and now with his renowned London Soloists Chamber
Ensemble he promotes outstanding young artists in orchestral concerts.
Tanya is an established painter.
Sylvia Lewin BA (Hons) RSA Dip. SpLD,
Instigator of Bnai Brith Jewish Music Festival; Past Chairman of Jewish
Music Heritage Trust; Past National President and now Hon. Life President,
Bnai Brith District 15 of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; Member British
Dyslexia Association; Founder and Past Director of Bnai Brith Job Clubs.

Jennifer Jankel, Chairman
Jennifer Jankel, daughter of the esteemed bandleader Joe Loss is a distinguished businesswoman and effective community leader. She joined the international shoe company, Charles Jourdan in 1960, to become International Vice-President in 1985. She left in 1987 to create own successful shoe company Luc Berjen. She was a finalist in The Times Veuve Cliquot Awards for Businesswoman of the Year in1981, and was given a prestigious award for the best new fashion company in 1992. Jennifer is a founder member and now Vice President of North West Surrey Synagogue, Weybridge. Her term as Chairman of the Synagogue was marked with great innovation and progress in team building and community engagement. She became a Trustee of the Jewish Music Institute in 1999 alongside her mother Mildred Loss. She rose to Deputy Chair in 2008 and in 2011 was appointed Chairman. She is a member of the ResponseAbility Team – Ageing in the Jewish Community. She has four children and 5 grandchildren and was married to the late Robert Jankel, founder of Jankel International of which she is a Director.

Jonathan E Lyons
Jonathan Metliss
Haberdasher's old boy and consultant at Davenport Lyons, Jonathan Metliss is passionate about his Jewish heritage. His mother is a Yiddish speaker with Lithuanian roots who grew up in London's East End. His grandfather was the Cantor at Egerton Road Synagogue in Stamford Hill and as a young boy Jonathan loved singing in the choir in Hendon. As a student at Southampton he chaired the Jewish Society and wherever he goes, he seeks out the Jewish community and Jewish culture. His other great interest is football and he is involved with 'Kick Racism out of Football'. Jonathan enjoys the variety of music that JMI offers, from the Cantorial to Klezmer and Ladino and the song-writing talents of Jews from the 20th Century. He served as JMI Chairman from 2008 to 2011 and believes that he can benefit the organisation through his connections within and outside the community.

Rev Malcolm Weisman OBE, MA (Oxon)
Barrister at Law; Recorder SE Circuit; Chaplain to Her Majesty's Forces,

Sec of Allied Airforce Chaplains' committee; Member Chief Rabbi's Cabinet
and Minister for Small Communities
Jill Segal trained as barrister and is a member of Gray's Inn. She pursued
other activities such as fund raising and running her own art and design
consultancy whilst bringing up two daughters. Since 1991 she has been
involved in the world of classical music. In 1994 she founded Connaught
Artists Management Ltd. of which she remains as director and for five
years she was a Governor of the English Speaking Union and Chairman of
the Cultural Affairs Committee. Her major interest is in live performance
and she has produced two theatre productions.
Stuart Stanton is Professor and Consultant Urogynaecologist now in private and medico-legal practice in Central London. He is also a visiting Professor at Hadassah Hospital (Jerusalem) where he travels every three months to lecture, see patients and operate. He is a founder member of the South London Israel Forum (SLIF) which meets monthly to hear speakers on Middle East politics and Israel's achievements in the Arts and Sciences, also a Trustee for Hadassah UK and a Patron of the British Friends of Hebrew University.
