Jewish music from Eastern Europe in London today
Barbican Art Gallery, Silk Street, London EC2
Entrance free

She'Koyokh, the new London based klezmer band, present a foot stamping, heart rending, and refreshingly entertaining selection of East European Jewish and Gypsy tunes. With their impressive line-up of clarinet, violin, accordion, French horn, mandolin, guitar, cello, trombone and poik this wild and friendly bunch curly-haired musos will get you dancing where you have never danced before! From the self-taught to the academy trained, this culturally diverse group sprang to life in 2001 at the JMI KlezFest and the ensemble is now one of the busiest klezmer bands in the UK playing regularly at weddings and barmitzvahs as well as pubs, clubs, concert venues and folk festivals.

In 2003 and 2004 they appeared at Glastonbury, Strawberry Fayre, Stokefest, Worldbeat and KlezFest as well as having sell-out gigs at Brighton's Komedia and London's The Spitz. They have played in Queen Elizabeth Hall foyer, Battersea Arts Centre, Notting Hill Arts Club, Wiltons Music Hall, the new GLA City Hall and Regents Park bandstand. They have recorded for the BBC World Service programme 'The Ticket' and been filmed for Sky News and BBC children in need. They are the Klezmer Band at a wedding in the TV series 'Fat Friends'. She'Koyokh members have given klezmer concerts and workshops at the Royal Academy of Music, Trinity College of Music, Wormwood Scrubs and Cranstown Rehabilitation Centre. As part of the Live Music Now! Scheme they perform regularly in schools, hospitals and day-centres.

2004 began with an exciting 9-day tour of Czech Republic and Poland and She'koyokh are continuing to develop their work with various theatre companies. You can catch SheKoyokh busking regularly at Portobello Road and Columbia Road flower market.

She'Koyokh uses a core of outstanding players and the ensemble is tailored to the needs of the occasion.

Part of the International Daniel Pearl Music Day: Harmony for Humanity
Daniel Pearl was a distinguished journalist and was brutally murdered in Pakistan while on an assignment for the Wall Street Journal. Daniel's family has now created a Foundation whose aim is to use the death of their son to educate people towards harmony and humanity. This concert at the Daniel Libeskind exhibition with its connections to the twin towers site and the Berlin Holocaust Museum is a fitting event to associate with the international Daniel Pearl Music Day: Harmony for Humanity.
