Jennifer Jankel appointed JMI Chairman 15 June 2011

The Jewish Music Institute (JMI) is delighted to announce that Jennifer Jankel, the daughter of the great bandleader Joe Loss, has been appointed Chairman after the AGM last week. Jennifer has been Deputy Chair for the last three years and has been a committed supporter of the Joe Loss Lectureship in Jewish Music at SOAS University of London, a post first established by JMI with her late mother Mildred and Professor Malcolm Troup at City University in 1991.

She follows Jonathan Metliss who has retired after giving three years of distinguished service to the Institute. He made it his mission to bring more people of all ages to the JMI table to partake of the richness of Jewish culture and heritage. With his connections within and outside the community, he has expanded JMI’s profile and introduced the organisation to many people who otherwise might not have been aware of its existence. Jonathan remains a Trustee to continue support of JMI’s future initiatives.

Jennifer thanked Jonathan for his enthusiasm and contribution and pledged to carry forward JMI’s mission to promote the study and performance of Jewish music for the benefit of all.

A Joe Loss Tribute concert will take place at the Royal College of Music on 4 December 2011 as a special fundraising event.
