A Yiddish Third Seder
posted 13 March 2004
Wednesday 7 April 2004 7.00pm
Inspired by the tradition of the Arbeter-ring (workmen's circle) in the
USA in the early 20th Century, we will use a specially prepared Hagode
with the idea of relating the Peysakh story to the Jewish contemporary
as well as historic experience - provoking, as in the best of sederim,
lively discussion. Guests are encouraged to bring readings (in Yiddish
or English), which may be used in the proceedings or added to the documentation
afterwards.
Knowledge of Yiddish is not essential for a lively and stimulating evening.
The seder will be conducted by Chaim Neslen and Haike Beruriah Wiegand
with help from Barry Davis, Vivi Lachs and David Mazower. The evening
inevitably will be peppered by boisterous Yiddish songs. Musicians are
encouraged to bring instruments. The evening includes a delicious kosher
fish buffet meal with all the Peysakh trimmings including soup and kneidlach
and all the matzos you can eat and wine you can drink.
The evening has been budgeted to cover the costs of the meal, the building
and other needs. For 'Friends' of JMI, and The Spiro Ark and members of
JEECS it will be £35 and for others £40. However we do want
to make all fellow Yiddish travellers very welcome and for those actively
involved in Yiddish Culture as attendees of Friends of Yiddish, Students
at Yiddish classes, etc we will be happy to accept a donation of £10
or more - whatever you feel able to pay. This goes for full time students
and children as well. Any surplus will go back into the pot for Yiddish
Projects at the Yidish-hoyz.
