Learn Klezmer
posted 25 April 2008

All musicians can learn Klezmer and most instruments are suitable (provided they are chromatic).

Classically trained musicians benefit from learning Klezmer because it allows them to develop their ear, and to enhance the expressiveness of their playing.

Jazz musicians benefit from Klezmer through the improvisational nature of the music as well as the unusual scales, modes and rhythms.

JMI currently run weekly Klezmer classes at SOAS, University of London on Tuesday evenings during term time. More details

We have a network of teachers throughout the UK, so if you are interested in setting up a Klezmer class in your area, please get in touch - info@jmi.org.uk
