2:00 - 2:30 - Welcome and opening remarks

2:30 - 4:00 - Session 1

  1. 45 mins: Klezmer in Context
    Klezmer clarinettist Ros Hawley introduces East European Jewish music, and using a Yiddish dance tune with hands-on playing Jewish modes, style and ornaments
  2. 45 mins: Yiddish Dance Rhythms
    Join Ros and the klezmer dance band in Yiddish dance tunes and try following Judith Plowman in simple yet elegant circle and line dances

4:00 - 4:30 - Tea break

4:30 - 6:00 - Session 2

Wind band rehearsal of Adam Gorb's works with klezmer teacher and wind band conductor working together
Composed repertoire:

  1. Adam Gorb Yiddish Dances (first performed 9 March 1998 - exactly 10 years ago)
  2. Adam Gorb - Eine Kleine Yiddishe Rag Musik

In the evening: optional klezmer jam with dancing at local pub venue

 

Monday 10 March

Composing in the klezmer genre - a session with Composer Adam Gorb

11:00 - 11:30 - Coffee

11:30 - 1:00 - Session 4

Wind band rehearsal of Adam Gorb's works with klezmer teacher and wind band conductor working together

1:00 - 2:00 - Lunch break

2:00 - 3:30 - Session 5

Frank London's Klezmer Brass Allstars lead a session in learning a klezmer piece by ear - to perform with Frank London's band at the concert. For ALL wind players.

3:30 - 4:00 - Tea

4:30 - 6:00 - Session 6

Rehearsal / sound check for concert at Prince's Road Synagogue
