First performed eighty years ago, Bertolt Brecht’s chilling one-act play, The Jewish Wife, is a chronicle of everyday German life at the dawn of the Nazi regime. As the Third Reich tightens its grip, relationships contort and fear and suspicion penetrate every layer of society.

Katharina Reinthaller directs this exclusive performance with actors:
Susanne Fiore and Peter Halpin
plus pianist Ilan Lazarus.
Followed by a short Yom Hasho’ah ceremony led by Rabbi Roni Tabick and singer Aaron Isaac.

The Union of Jewish Students in conjunction with the Jewish Music Institute, Rene Cassin and a host of London Jewish Societies, are proud to present our first music concert, ‘Together in Tune’.

This concert will bring together the Jewish and Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller community, through the celebration and recognition of our similar music styles. Featuring a variety of highly talented, versatile, professional singers, dancers and bands from these two communities the unique event will bring together Jewish-Roma cultural life in a celebration of music, dance and culture.

We interview Dan Raffaeli of UJS, Jonny Mosesson of BiBas and the singer Florence Joelle to find out more.

The JMI is proud to present the relaunch of the Jewish Music Fair at Alyth (NWRS) on Sunday 18th February 2018.

JMI’s Jewish Music Fair is a fascinating day packed with Jewish music of all kinds and genres, from the very best musicians, academics, practitioners and leaders. From lectures to workshops, Q&A’s to concerts the JMI’s Jewish Music Fair will bring you a wealth of talent from the world of Jewish Music.

The Wolf Of Baghdad

London-based musician Carol Isaacs, also known as cartoonist The Surreal McCoy, has created The Wolf Of Baghdad, an audio-visual project that traces her Iraqi-Jewish family’s memories of their lost homeland. A graphic memoir with its own musical soundtrack by new Judeo-Arabic ensemble 3Ayin, excerpts from the work in progress will be performed at the Laydeez Do Comics event on Monday December 11th 2017.

3Ayin are Daniel Jonas (Los Desterrados), multi-instrumentalist and vocals; Keith Clouston (Rivers Of Babylon), oud; Guy Schalom (Baladi Blues Ensemble and Hamsa), percussion; Carol Isaacs, accordion (London Klezmer Quartet and Hamsa). Repertoire is taken from the music the Jews of Iraq would have been familiar with – from songs by the Al Kuwaiti brothers to piyyutim (Jewish liturgical poems).

Join a Klezmer Kapelye (ensemble) for 3 hours of music-making with expert tuition from top traditional klezmer exponents from the UK and USA. Under-16s – register and be part of the first National Klezmer Youth Kapelye, a group that we hope will continue and develop after this inaugural meeting.

Master percussionist, oudist and vocalist Yinon Muallem combines iconic Jewish melodies with original compositions and arrangements. For this special Funky Dervish performance, Shirley Smart (Cello), Joe Browne (Tenor & Alto Sax), and Vasilis Sarikis (Percussion) will be joining Yinon Muallem to present a night of fusion between instruments, cultures and musical styles.
