Malcolm Singer explores Bernstein’s Jewish heritage and the influence of Jewish liturgical music not just on the Chichester Psalms but on much of this extraordinary musician’s output.

Malcolm Singer was Director of Music at the Yehudi Menuhin School from 1998 -2017 and was Musical Director of the Zemel Choir from 1983 – 1993. He teaches composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His own ‘Jewish’ works include Kaddish, commissioned by the BBC Singers; York, for the 800th anniversary of massacre of the Jews at Clifford’s Tower; and The Mask of Esther, commissioned by the St Alban’s Chamber Choir and the Zemel Choir. He has set many Psalms in Hebrew, Latin and English.
