Yellow Ticket The
Title: The Yellow Ticket
Director: William Parke
Cast: Pola Negri
Country: Germany/Poland–1918
Directed by Victor Janson & Eugen Illés

Leah, a Jewish girl (Polish actress-turned-Hollywood superstar Pola Negri) is forced to hide her identity in order to attend medical school in St. Petersburg. In this remarkably progressive melodrama, Lea is a compelling heroine, disadvantaged as a woman, an orphan and a Jew – and yet she has immense persistence and insatiable ambition.Partly filmed in the Jewish part of pre-World War II Warsaw, The Yellow Ticket is the first film to explore Jewish discrimination in Tsarist Russia.A rare opportunity to see one of the most evocative films of the early 1900s starring Polish actress-turned-Hollywood superstar Pola Negri with a new, live score from Sophie Solomon, (violinist and Artistic Director of the Jewish Music Institute), Quentin Collins (trumpet), Ian Watson (accordion) and Grant Windsor (piano).
