UKJFF & JMI: Rose

Saturday 13th November | 7:00 pm 9:30 pm

Everyman Muswell Hill

Introduced by director Aurelie Sa’ada

Variety Piazza Grande Award Winner, Locarno International Film Festival 2021Best Film Nominee, Festival International de Film Saint-Jean-de-Luz 2021

Françoise Fabian, (My Night at Maud’s, Belle de Jour,Call My Agent), Grégory Montel (Call My Agent) and Aure Atika (The Night Manager, OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies) star in this warm-hearted Parisian Jewish family drama. When patriarch Philippe dies, his wife Rose feels that her life is over. A chance dinner party however, re-ignites her joie-de-vivre much to the discomfort of her three loving but somewhat disfunctional children. Unsure how to deal with this new vivacious version of their mother, Rose’s childrens’ concerns can’t stop her celebrating life again. Honest, beautifully observed and laced with a treasure trove of Yiddish and Mizrahi songs, this is a life-affirming and accomplished debut feature from director Aurelie Sa’ada.

This film is classified as a 15.

“We are proud and excited to bring you the 25th anniversary edition of the UK Jewish Film Festival (4-8 November), which is back in cinemas, as well as available online in your homes. UK Jewish Film is always proud to partner with JMI, whose wonderful work we appreciate and support. As a musician myself, music has always been key to my outlook on what makes a film successful and is central to my own personal film favourites. This year, among our 50+ films, we draw your attention to the wonderful French-Jewish family drama Rose (in cinema only), with its treasure trove of Yiddish and Mizrahi songs, and to Tuning (online only), a documentary that demonstrates the power of a humble train station piano to bring a diverse nation of Israeli commuters together. We hugely appreciate your support and look forward to welcoming you to the Festival.”
