A World of Jewish Music at the Purcell Room

Matej Arendarik.  In 2009 he was the overall 2nd prize winner and also won the 1st prize sponsored by JMI and EPTA for the best interpretation of music by a Jewish composer from Terezin at the EU Piano Competition held in Prague in the summer.

Roisin Walters.  She is currently a student at the Royal Academy of Music, playing a 1720 Parker violin on loan from the colections.

Benya Krik.  Screening of Benya Krik, a classic silent film with a screenplay by the great Russian writer Isaac Babel set in the seamy Jewish underworld of Odessa in the 1920s.  The film was accompanied by live music composed by Robin Harris.  (The tuba player shown in the 2nd picture is Paul Tkachenko).

Sophie Solomon.  Virtuoso violinist, songwriter and composer  Sophie Solomon is one of the leading klezmer violinists of her generation.  Her band features Ian Watson on accordion.
